I have been teaching guitar for over 40 years. I started taking guitar lessons at the age of 9, beginning with Mel Bay Volume One. It's quite a trip to now have my Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian books published by Mel Bay. But my learning breakthrough was when I began listening to records and using my ear at an early age to figure things out. I started dropping the needle on records, then moving to cassette recorders and half speed cassette recorders. Now I use computer programs such as "Amazing Slow Downer". I teach to help students realize their musical goals and still remember what it was like to be a beginning guitar student. The drive and passion I had for learning guitar remains today.

I enjoy teaching in the following specialized areas:

Gypsy Jazz/Swing Guitar
  • Gypsy Jazz and Swing Music.
  • Wrote two books each on Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian, pioneers of jazz and swing guitar and one on Benny Goodman, The King of Swing. Led several bands that specialized in Swing Music and Gypsy Jazz.
Solo Guitar
  • Played thousands of solo guitar gigs.
  • Extensive repertoire that includes The Classic American Songbook (Gershwin, Porter, Ellington) Jazz, Latin, Brazilian (Bossa Nova and Samba) and Pop (Beatles, Elton John, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Carole King).
  • Learn to perform full, complete sounding chord melody arrangements of great songs.
  • If you are a singer I will show you how to play a great background accompaniment for your songs.
Blues and Jump Blues Guitar
  • The music of BB King, Albert King, Freddie King and other blues greats.
  • The great jump blues players like Bill Jennings, Tiny Grimes, Duke Robillard and Junior Watson.
Classical Guitar
  • Standard repertoire
  • Popular favorites for gigging musicians.
